Course Abstract
This three-day course focuses on performing day-to-day administration of the Oracle Exadata platform. Students will learn about the architecture of the Exadata machine and what to expect when asked to administer Oracle’s premier engineered system. Important tasks will be highlighted through hands-on labs. Students will learn how to successfully perform one of the most difficult aspects of Exadata administration – patching, as well as how to handle hardware failures and ensure that the system stays online. Students will learn from the Enkitec’s experience of owning and administering their own Exadatas, plus the numerous Exadata implementations performed by Enkitec.

- Why is there a course specifically for administering Exadata? Exadata is a unique combination of hardware and software provided from one vendor. At many customer sites, it is treated like a “black box” that isn’t to be touched. Like any other system, Exadata has complex requirements for a successful deployment. Exadata storage servers utilize a customized installation of Oracle Enterprise Linux along with an up and coming networking technology – Infiniband – for the backend storage and cluster interconnect. Due to the specialized nature of Exadata, administrators should be prepared to handle a broad range of areas including network, operating system, hardware and Oracle software. This class aims to cover the the most relevant topics in each of these areas.
